Marketing. It is the way you get your business, your product, and your service known to the people.
If people do not know who you are, it is as if you do not exist. So, how do you reach these people in order for them to see what you have to offer?
With marketing. Now, this is very broad and it has evolved over the years.
One popular way to do it is email marketing. Some may say this is a bit outdated, but it is still statistically one of the best ways to reach your potential audience.
As of 2019, about 3.8 billion people across the world had email accounts. That is no doubt a large audience, but there is a lot of competition for that audience.
If you are not careful, your email can get buried. So, how do you prevent this? How do you make email marketing work for you?
This is your guide.
A Good Title
For an email that you send to potential clients, it is important to have a catchy title. Why is this?
Because you need to give your audience a reason to click your email and keep reading, and truthfully, you have a very limited window to be able to do that.
The average attention span of a human is eight seconds. To put that in perspective, a goldfish has a longer attention span than we do, at nine seconds respectfully.
In other words, you have eight seconds to get someone’s attention and to give them a reason to read the rest of your email. The first step to doing that is to have the right title.
So, let’s say you are selling a vacuum cleaner. Titling your email “New Vacuum Cleaner” may not be enough to truly grab a reader.
However, if you titled it “The Vacuum Cleaner That ACTUALLY Cleans Everything”, that may make people curious as to what you have to offer.
You need a hook to reel your clients in. After that, they will sit down and examine the body (your actual content).
Visual
The next thing that you need to do is to make your email POP! By that, we mean, make it stand out.
There is a famous statistic out there in the marketing world that states that people will remember 80% of what they see, 20% of what they read, and 10% of what they hear. So, if you have ever found yourself having a hard time trying to reference something you might have heard on a podcast or read in a book, this is why.
In contrast to that, memes and videos have the ability to go viral, and you see the next big meme or video changing constantly. This is because it is an anchor in people’s memory, whereas this without the pictures around it is just a bunch of paragraphs.
So, when you are sending out an email to an audience, put a relatable or relevant image in there. If you want something more creative, make a meme or insert a GIF.
Then, there is knowing what colors to make your email marketing templates. The right colors play a significant part, as a lot of buyers are drawn to certain colors.
You need to have colors that will give life to your product, but at the same time not overwhelm your audience. Some people like to go with more neutral colors such as black for this reason.
Pictures and colors greatly increase the chance of your audience remembering who you are, and they will think of you when it comes time to make a purchase with you or need a service that you can provide.
Timing
To be an effective email marketer, you need to know when you need to send emails out to your audience. One example would be if someone signs up for a subscription or membership on your website, you should send them an email welcoming them to your website.
If someone completes a purchase on your website, you should send them an email with a receipt, similar products or services you have to offer, and thank them for shopping with you.
The right timing has people thinking about your business when they may either need you or think they may need a business such as yours.
An example of this can be a Cyber Monday sale. You can send an email out about a week in advance promoting whatever sale you have to offer. Then, send 1-2 reminder emails about that sale after that to keep people thinking about you.
Remember, as stated above, a human’s attention span is very short. You may grab their attention initially, but you have to get creative about finding ways to keep it, with regularly scheduled emails without bombarding them.
Third-Party Services
Of course, if this is all a little overwhelming for you as a new business owner, you do have other options. There are marketing companies out there that offer their services to help you get new customers.
This includes things such as web design, SEO, and data management.
For email marketing, this can be having their own email list, email marketing software to schedule regular emails for you and their own ways of coming up with eye-popping content that you might not think of.
All of this can lead to you having more people be exposed to your product, and the best part is that you do not have to do any of the work for it, as you are essentially outsourcing your marketing.
